Work in practice

Examples of sustainability work in practice.

Every project starts with a specific decision: what to measure, what to improve, what to report, where to invest, or how to implement change. These fictional examples show the type of work Gecko Innovation SL can support.

Manufacturing · Environmental Impact Assessment · EPD

Preparing product environmental data for EPD development

The client needed to organize product data, supplier information, energy use, waste flows, and methodological assumptions before starting an EPD process. Without structured data, the verification stage would be difficult to complete efficiently.

Gecko Innovation SL structured the inventory, reviewed data gaps, mapped relevant life-cycle stages, prepared calculation-ready datasets, and created a technical documentation pack for the next verification steps. We also reviewed the methodological alignment with the relevant product category rules.

The client gained a clearer evidence base, a more organized product data workflow, and a practical path toward EPD preparation. Internal teams could continue updating the data independently after the project.

Circular packaging strategy for a consumer goods brand

The client wanted to reduce packaging-related impacts but had competing priorities around cost, recyclability, supplier availability, product protection, and customer experience. Multiple packaging formats added further complexity to the decision.

Gecko Innovation SL compared packaging options using environmental and technical criteria, identified trade-offs, reviewed circularity opportunities, and developed a phased roadmap covering material choices, supplier engagement, and communication risks. We also assessed which claims could be substantiated with the available data.

The client received a practical packaging roadmap that clarified which changes could be made immediately and which required further testing or supplier development. Environmental claims were grounded in evidence.

Industrial · Climate Transition · Energy

Climate transition roadmap for an energy-intensive operation

The client needed to understand its main emissions drivers and define realistic mitigation actions without disrupting core operations. Internal teams lacked a structured method for comparing options or communicating priorities to leadership.

Gecko Innovation SL reviewed available emissions and operational data, identified priority intervention areas, developed scenarios for near-term and longer-term action, and built a roadmap linking technical actions with governance and monitoring needs. We also prepared materials for the leadership presentation.

The client gained a clearer transition pathway, including near-term operational actions and longer-term investment considerations, structured in a way that internal teams could continue updating independently.

Innovation consortium · Data and Digital Tools · EU project

Sustainability intelligence dashboard for an innovation project

The consortium needed a way to organize environmental, technical, economic, and exploitation-related information across partners and work packages. Different partners were tracking sustainability information in disconnected formats, making it difficult to report progress or identify inconsistencies.

Gecko Innovation SL designed a structured data workflow and dashboard concept to help partners track assumptions, indicators, scenarios, and decision-relevant sustainability information. We aligned the framework with EU project reporting requirements and provided documentation for the project coordinator.

The project team gained a shared framework for monitoring sustainability-related information and improving consistency across technical deliverables. The dashboard reduced reporting effort at each milestone stage.
